Belgrade, July 20th, 2023

Good job! You’ve made it through the interview process, and you got yourself your first internship. We’re once in your shoes, so we know the feeling of happiness mixed with the curiosity about what it’s all going to look like. Don’t worry, you’re in good hands!

We have good news, an internship at Elsys isn’t about getting coffee and lunch, it’s about enhancing your skills and using the knowledge gained during your studies, in the real environment. The thing that sets our internship apart from all others is that it’s a combination of lab practice, lecture, and work on the simulation of our actual commercial projects. One of the most important advantages of our internship is that the interns are fully supported by their mentors. Assigning experienced engineers as mentors give our interns a sense of stability and support, and it allows them to have someone that will introduce them to the work and the environment. We believe that this is the only way possible for a successful internship.

Taking a few crucial steps from the start of your internship can help you facilitate the whole onboarding process and ensure your success in this new role. Continue reading our article and find out the key elements of our Elsys Internship starter pack.

  1. There are no small parts, only small actors

If you think your role is insignificant, you’re fooling yourself. At Elsys, we think of interns and treat them as part of the team from the start. The whole purpose of our internship is to gain skills, learn, and be included in the work at the beginning. That’s why at our internship you’ll sense a lot of equality and respect from your teammates. After all, we want our interns to feel comfortable and get the real picture of our company, so they’ll be included in the company’s growth one day.

  1. There is no such thing as a stupid question

There is no lie that during your internship you’ll likely find yourself in situations where you’ll be unsure of how to do something. The best advice we can give you if you find yourself in that position – don’t hesitate to ask. That’s why at Elsys every intern has an assigned mentor to support them during their internship. Your mentor will be more than willing to help you and resolve any unclarities you might have. Asking questions shows your motivation to learn and get familiar with your work.

  1. Be like a sponge – watch and soak

The internship is a great opportunity to soak up all the knowledge you possibly can. We’ve already covered the topic of asking your mentor anything you’re not familiar with or don’t understand, but more important than asking is listening carefully to the answer. Write down the important things and pay attention to what your mentor or your colleagues are doing.

  1. Always give your best

We must admit that we truly appreciate the effort, because in that way you’re showing us that you want to be a part of our internship program, and later a part of the company. No assignment is too small not to give your A-game. We believe that if you continuously give your 100% during your internship, it will become your habit and it will be so much easier for you to cope with the increasing workload when you land the job. So, wake up, give 100%, rest, repeat.

  1. Triple-check your work

Mistakes happen and that is completely normal. Taking a second or a third look at your work will reduce the space of error occurring in your work. That’s why it is important to check your task once you’ve finished it. Checking your work gives a sense of professionalism and accuracy to your colleagues and your mentor, and trust us, everybody appreciates that.

Making a good impression during your internship spurs from demonstrating your knowledge and willingness to learn and prosper. Be curious, ask away, and give your all to soak every moment of the program. The best interns we’ll be selected to join our company and contribute with the gained skill on our exciting and challenging projects.
